My Second Home

My wife recently introduced me to a restaurant located in Sg. Dua off JPJ training school and near Sg. Nibong Bus terminal, the location is secluded. We had a bit of trouble looking for the location but in the end manage to find it. The restaurant name is 'My Second Home'. The first glance at the place would bring nostalgic memories of your home. Especially if you come from a kampung style hometown.
the clay pot
The steamboat  is not cooked in the traditional stainless steel pot but instead a clay pot which makes it even more unique. During the time we patronage the restaurant was empty. We went there at around 8pm. Which gives it a really peaceful setting.
The milk soup
When your seated your given a choice of 4 types of soups. Tom Yam, Clear Soup, Milk Soup and Chicken Herbal Soup. They do offer a refill of another type of soup if you firstly finish the first soup. Me and my wife chose Milk soup and to our surprise it does not taste milky at all, it taste a bit like mushroom soup cream. Maybe its because of the mushroom we added to the soup. For the first round we added the seafood ingredients to the soup. and we had 3 rounds of dishes and it was very filling but delicious we also had a change of soup for the chicken herbal soup.

Chicken herbal soup
If your hungry and couldn't wait for the main dishes to come, they do have a buffet table. Filled with raw ingredients for the steamboat at one side, eggs, seaweed, maggie, mee, bihun, vegetable and so on. While the other side is spaghetti, bite-size sandwiches and fried dumplings. And you also have the dessert corner, they also have those ice pop stickles which literary brings nostalgic memories. Too bad i didnt had the opportunity to take some pictures of the interior
The main entrance

The food they offer is very rustic and homey feeling, nothing really fancy, because the dishes they offer for the steamboat are simple dishes that you get to enjoy at home during a steamboat with the family. The surplus its a buffet. They first will give you an ordering sheet and you select what items you want. To give you a glimpse of what they offer, fishballs, sausages, sparrow eggs, prawns, prawn mantis, lotus root, fish, chicken, crab meat and etc.
The seafood
Overall, the place seems to have a nice atmosphere to it. If your out for a reasonably priced steamboat and looking for something that is not that fancy, then My Second Home makes it a place to be, its priced less then RM20  per head and its a great place to bring family gathering, reunions or celebrations.

Isaac Toast and Coffee

Whats the first word that comes to your mind when you hear "Toast"? Eggs and toast, Bread and jam, burned bread, a morning breakfast. Well, at Isaac Toast and Coffee, a South Korean Branding which could compete with coffee giant Starbucks in Korea, and now they are in Penang First outlet in Malaysia bringing toast into a whole new concept. Not only it can be a breakfast meal, but a luncheon as well! So toast loves your so going to love this!

At the first look of the toast you will think ah, its just looks like any another ordinary toast which I can make it myself~. Before you think that its an ordinary toast, you got to try it first! I am sure the first bite will blow your mind, the sensation of  the tangy sweetness from their special top secret recipe imported all the way from Korea and saltiness from the ham. Crunchiness from the egg filled with juicy corn kernal and purple  white cabbage will make sure you want more!

On their listed menu they have 3 types of meat Chicken, turkey and beef! So choose your meat! But only the down side of the toast is it may just look like a normal toast with above average ingredients, I recommend it to be a worth for it for a try. At least it beats the morning fast food chains! And much more less smellier than their competitors.

Pasta mania! How to cook the perfect pasta!

My favourite meal would be pasta. Especially spaghetti.. hehe.. Face the fact we are just
amateur cooks in the house, especially if your a guy/girl who literally doesn't know a single darn thing about the kitchen or never touched a frying pan.. We also cant really blame our mom who is the queen of the kitchen, who cooks delicious meals for us while we wait anxiously at the dinner table for the food to be served to us.

I am sure I am not the only person out there who cooks like an amateur. Below are some steps on cooking a perfect pasta!

Step 1:
Bring a large pot or a saucepan, add some salt to the water as the salt will increase the water's boiling point and also enhances the flavour of the pasta.
Step 2:
Once the water is at boiling point add the pasta and stir occasionally we don't want our pasta to burn at the bottom of the pot/pan. Caution Do not add oil to the water as this will effect the sauce from clinging to the cooked pasta.
Step 3:
Now cook the pasta according the packet direction or until al dente, which is Italian for 'to the tooth'. To test this remove a piece of the pasta from the pan/pot then take a bite - it should be cooked but slightly firm in the centre. Once done, drain it, but don't rinse it as it will wash away the starch that is needed to absorb the flavours of the sauce.
Walah~ you have a perfectly cooked pasta. Now your left with the sauce.
For the sauce, we can put all sorts of ingredients like pepper bell, onions, garlic, mushrooms, chilly for those who like it spicy, and tomato for its sweetness. The most important is the base of the sauce. If you want it to be creamy, then go for seafood ingredients or mushrooms, as they compliment the flavours. While for the traditional bolognese is just meat for those who doesn't like strong tasting ingredients. No harm putting some vege into the sauce as well to give it some crunchiness to it.
Once your done with your sauce, serve it on a plate and add the sauce together with a pinch oregano, or any herbs will go fine with  the spaghetti, just remember not to add too much..!!  Additional cheese would be nice as well. So Bon Appetit!
